Spring Ahead and Sleep Coaching

Spring Ahead is here, and for families on a schedule, this is often a challenging time of year. Babies can be very particular about their schedule, especially babies who have gone through a sleep coaching or routine training program. A time change is the ultimate monkey-wrench in the smooth gears of routine.

You may be thinking, “What am I going to do!? I spent a lot of time getting my baby on this routine, and now it’s going to be all messed up! What does this mean for my sleep?”

Never fear, the Sleep Experts at Concierge Doulas are here to help!

First and foremost, it’s important to recognize that even adults struggle with time change. It’s a bit of a bump in our biological clock, and it takes a few days to adjust. Babies are the same way—you can expect your baby to take about 3 days to adjust to the new time.

In these 3 days, you may notice your baby is more fussy, and may need more reassurance going to sleep. This is normal, and we encourage you to keep your routines as intact as possible, while allowing a bit of room for extra comfort if it is needed.

    When you bring home your first child, you at least have the option to sleep (or at least rest) when they sleep. With our second, one child is always awake needing attention. I’ve been pushing the let’s take a nap with daddy game but it never works. Finding that time to balance a full nights sleep with all of the other to-do’s is extremely difficult. I’ve been think about setting a nightly alarm signaling when it’s time to wrap up. Will let you know if it works.ReplyCancel
